AI is amazing
So I just wrote an outline for a paper in less than a minute, it looks like it was something a student could hand in as a draft (the citations appear to be real, I don’t have enough mental capacity at the moment to actually read the papers I was just experimenting). I am so glad ChatGPT wasn’t around while I was taking 200 level classes but so wish it was when I was taking 300 and higher level classes. I would have just become a lazy student, and not learned how to critically read to expand my knowledge base if it was around while I was taking 200 level classes, I would have turned out to be like those lawyers who used ChatGPT to make up stuff (Find story here). However after learning the 200 level stuff I could have used AI to help me learn, it could have helped me find things I didn’t even know I was looking for. Here is the outline of the paper that took me longer to read than to write.
Introduction
Transgender individuals often face significant societal challenges and discrimination. This phenomenon, sometimes termed as “trans panic,” involves negative attitudes, stereotypes, and potentially harmful behaviors directed towards transgender people.
Societal Attitudes and Ideologies
Studies have shown that certain societal ideologies and gender role beliefs significantly influence attitudes towards transgender individuals. For example, Makwana et al. (2018) found that individuals with high Need for Closure, preferring societal traditions, exhibit more transphobia, influenced by their resistance to disruption of traditional gender norms (Makwana et al., 2018). Similarly, Costa and Davies (2012) reported that negative attitudes towards transgender individuals correlate with negative attitudes towards lesbians and gay men, with males showing more negative attitudes than females (Costa & Davies, 2012).
Education and Professional Practice
The role of education in shaping attitudes towards transgender individuals is crucial. Otero, Espinoza, and González (2016) revealed that social work students in Nuevo León, Mexico, held numerous myths and stereotypes, indicating a need for more inclusive education on sexual diversity and gender in professional training (Otero et al., 2016).
Mental Health Implications
Internalized transphobia, including feelings of shame and alienation, significantly impacts the mental health of transgender individuals. Scandurra et al. (2018) observed that this internalized transphobia mediates the relationship between discrimination and mental health issues, highlighting resilience as a crucial coping mechanism (Scandurra et al., 2018).
Legal Advocacy and Gender Violence
The legal system plays a pivotal role in advocating for transgender individuals. Gordon (2009) emphasizes the importance of feminist legal theories in advocating for transgender rights in areas of discrimination (Gordon, 2009). Additionally, Lombardi et al. (2002) noted the strong association between economic discrimination and violent incidents against transgender people, underscoring the need for hate crimes legislation and employment protections (Lombardi et al., 2002).
Conclusion
The research underscores the complexity of “trans panic” in contemporary society, highlighting the influence of societal norms, the critical role of education and professional training, the mental health impacts of discrimination, and the importance of legal advocacy in addressing these challenges. These findings call for a multifaceted approach to combat prejudice and promote gender diversity and equality.
