Firewall update
I was working on my blog when I realized I had the wrong image of my firewall setup. I tried a few times to get openWRT to work on the pi 5 but I had no luck so I broke and got actual hardware to act as a firewall. This thing I have pushing out 6 wifi AP’s I have a bout load of vLANs and than on top of that I could retire my old Airport extreme, but instead of letting it go to the farm to run free with all the other old retired hardware it is pushing out two joke wifi APs. “Do or Do not -Yoda” and “Hello there -Obi Won Kenobi,” the passwords are also quotes of the two but it is not plugged into the internet.
The other APs that are connected to the internet are my brand of humour, I have moved away from law enforcement this go around though. My IoT things get to be put on a vlan 10.6.66.0 “NRC Appliance Devision” and it is only on 2.4ghz I shared the vlan IP because I thought it was amusing. My guest wifi is “Canadian Coast Guard Outpost“ being in Saskatchewan I hope people can get a kick out of that, I have a QR code on my fridge for people to dock. Then I have “Service Canada Youth Allowance” for if friends bring kiddos with them. Then my personal one is “CBSA Amnesty Bin 407“ and it is only on the 5ghz band while the other two spread across both 2.4 and 5ghz. Each one of these have different levels of access and safe guards, each one have different pihole and firewall settings.
I thought that if my TV reset its self because it has been unplugged for so long I could put it on the IoT vLAN and forget about it rather than figuring out how to turn that silly nagging about not being connected to the internet feature off again, but alas I know I will not be letting it call home so no wifi for it.
