PRIDE

The morning of June 29th, 1969 police raided Stonewall, a club frequented by trans folk, gender queer people, and drag performers (There is argument on who through the first punch but most agree that it was a trans woman of colour), PRIDE was birthed out of this failed police raid.

Last year I was venting on Facebook about how many call it Gay PRIDE, a friend told me well that is what it is called. This friend is also trans, a fact that does not matter, if I remember correctly he told me about how it is only recently that the word "gay" has been dropped. So that statement got me to start doing research on the topic of PRIDE, where I realized that it is the privileged who write history. It was never called gay PRIDE, or it never should have been. There is so much more to what is now PRIDE than the homosexual cis men, I am not happy that the cis het seem to think that showing the rainbow is enough for PRIDE. There is so much more than the gay rainbow!
